Does anyone have any calendar formats they would be willing to share for a multi-exhibition space musem? We host up to 6 exhibits a year and would like to have a better organized calendar. We are using a running list right now.

Ahh,  The famous museum exhibit designer "Mr Murphy" created a lot of laws -- and one of them said, "Electrical outlets: It doesn't matter -- because no matter where you put them, and how many there are - they'll always still be in the WRONG place!"      LOL . . .

Seriously be as generous and as flexible as you can, but in addition to having outlets on the walls, they're kinda handy to have in the floor.   When we renovated our building we installed four foor outlets, but they're ALWAYS in the wrong place), so for our free-standing exhibit kiosks we run power-cords up to the ceiling and plug them into a 110v outlet attached to our ceiling light track.     :-)

You also might want to join and post this question on the AASLH's "Small Museums" listserv.   (

Good luck, and peruse some of the resources I sent and you'll find some good (practical!) advice and information.

Thank you to everyone who has responded to my inquiry about exhibits so far!

We are starting from scratch here (the future museum is now a liquor store), so everything helps.

Now I'll ask another question, this one a bit more concrete: if you had a small, square room to turn into an exhibit space, where would you put the electrical outlets?  (Or: what factors would you consider before deciding where to put the outlets?)

Thank you again!
