Home to* *one of the nation’s finest collections of contemporary Native American fine and traditional arts, The Heritage Center at Red Cloud Indian School seeks a *Museum Educator* who, in consultation with the Curator, develops, coordinates and implements museum educational programs, including family programs, concerts, artist talks, exhibition and collection-based tours and discussions, programs for school visits and teacher-led programs and will be responsible for formulating, evaluating, coordinating and executing all aspects of a comprehensive strategy for THC’s educational program. A bachelor’s degree is required/M.A. preferred in Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies, Fine Art, or related field, and three years of relevant museum experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Reports to Curator. Essential Functions: - Plan, implement and evaluate all THC education programs, materials and curricula. - Manage educational initiatives, community outreach, school and summer programs. - Work collaboratively with essential staff to fully coordinate and support school tour programming. - Work with Curatorial staff in planning educational related content for exhibits, and THC’s website. - Regularly provide programmatic input to the Director of Marketing and Marketing personnel to assist in marketing education and volunteer programs. - Apply current museum educational trends and theories to all programming. Additional Functions: - Conduct in-depth surveys of the visitor experience at THC to understand from an educational perspective what visitors are hoping to gain from their experience, and what additional resources THC should consider offering to its visitors. - Conduct research and outreach to local and regional schools, with the aim of engaging more teachers and school groups for educational programs. - Develop online educational resources and a range of curriculum materials aligned with grade-level standards to be used by teachers to prepare students from pre-K to college level for visiting THC. - Work with THC’s staff and other stakeholders to develop short and long term plans for new and enhanced education and public programs at THC. - Other duties as assigned.
