Job title:  Museum Chief Registrar

Job description/responsibilities:

 

Oversight of the Museum's permanent collection, acquisition and loans - including maintenance and transportation of the artwork. Coordinates the shipping of art to and from the museum, which includes procuring shipping estimates and making arrangements for transportation. (May be asked to courier artwork.) Supervises Assistant Registrars, interns and volunteers. Oversees museum's Collection Management Databases. Creates and maintains all records (paper and computer) pertinent to the museum's collections including acquisition files, condition reports, art location, deeds of gifts, and loan agreements. Acts as museum liaison with insurance agency and is responsible for overseeing the insurance policies and their annual renewal, and getting insurance quotes. Processes rights and reproduction requests. Maintains the museum's transparency and photo archives. Assists faculty, students and researchers in the use of the collection. Works with the preparation staff in the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions and prepares exhibition labels. Performs other duties as assigned. Conducts and documents condition reports of artwork as it comes into museum and leaves museum.  

 

Department Preferences

 

Knowledge of AAM best practices in museum procedures and registration methods.

Five years of experience in art museum registration department.

Knowledge of legal matters relating to museum collection management.

Familiarity with art handling and conservation issues.

Knowledge of art.

Experience working with museum computer databases (FileMakerPro).

Knowledge of Apple computers and imaging software (Adobe PhotoShop).

MA in art history.  

 

Salary: $36,653

Job description/responsibilities:

 

Duties include assisting the Museum Registrar with managing the collection in terms of acquisitions, loans, accessioning/deaccessioning, cataloging, contracts, packing, shipping, inventorying, insurance, photography, condition reporting, conservation, environmental monitoring, and storage. The Assistant Registrar provides support to exhibitions, which also includes courier responsibilities and use of Virtual Gallery software. The Assistant Registrar assists with student, class, and scholar access to the collection. The Assistant Registrar may oversee student interns and volunteers.  

 

Salary: $13.50 hr.
