The Frost Art Museum's education programs, designed to nurture and increase each participant's knowledge of art, honor our mission to serve audiences of all ages, means and backgrounds, including the culturally diverse FIU community and residents of and visitors to South Florida. The Frost Art Museum develops a significant series of public programs in conjunction with the major exhibitions it borrows and organizes each year. In addition the Frost Art Museum offers tours of exhibitions and the Sculpture Park at FIU.

Job Summary

  *   Coordinates all educational aspects of museum exhibitions and programs as well as outreach initiatives.
  *   Works with curators to create educational material to support temporary and permanent exhibitions.
  *   Plans, develops and administers educational programs of the museum, organizes the educational resource center of the museum, which includes handouts and educational guides for each exhibition.
  *   Writes all educational text for exhibitions and the sculpture park, including newsletter, catalogs, brochures, family guides and wall text.
  *   Schedules and often leads tours for visitors of all ages and backgrounds, including Spanish speaking guests.
  *   Creates, schedules and supervises various educational programs, including Wednesday After Hours; Art Smart: Sculpture; Art Smart: Figures; ArtWorks!; Family Days and Sculpture Badge Program for Girl & Boy Scouts of America.
  *   Organizes annual Teacher Workshops.
  *   Contracts speakers and artists for programming as needed.
  *   Acts as museum liaison/project coordinator for the annual Creative Visions exhibition.
  *   Coordinates and manages the programs for the biannual BFA exhibitions and annual MFA exhibition.
  *   Facilitates the award process for the Betty Laird Perry Award for each student show.
  *   Writes grants to fund and support educational initiatives.
  *   Involves student organizations and the FIU community at large in museum's programs and activities.
  *   Meets with professors to involve their classes with the museum in their course outline.
  *   Attends teachers' meetings and conventions to promote use of the museum's services.
  *   Interprets museum's policies according to the standards of the American Association of Museums.
  *   Works together with one Museum Educator from MDCPS to schedule art tours of the exhibitions and/or sculpture park for MDC art teachers.
  *   Supervises and trains volunteers/interns to assist in presentation of classes and tours and educational programming.


Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in an appropriate specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization and two years of experience.

Desired Qualifications
Master's Degree in Museum Education, Art Education, Fine Arts or Art History preferred.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.  Previous experience creating art curriculum, conducting museum education programs, working with children, public speaking, managing part-time staff and multi-tasking required.

Advertised Salary

$40,000-$45,000, Commensurate with Experience.



Other Information
Must attend meetings off campus and occasionally attend functions on weekends and evenings.
