And, one could say, your description (many simple minded people, poor people, nationalists, and people from many different churches) could fit many nations, including my own.

There are still a lot of communists there, many simple minded poor people, radical nationalists and many people from different churches (Do you know another country where so many new cathedrals and chapels are built?). So what do you expect, also as result for such a "petition" (which really is a nice commercial gag to collect eMail addresses - I get 4 of these petitions a week and do not answer them because of this background).
