I would recommend Autocad 2012. However there is a large learning curve, it is expensive and not the best for all situations. Autocad LT is less expensive but does not allow for 3d.
There are several other programs out there which utilize 3d modeling.
Choosing the appropriate program depends on what your expectations are and what the purpose of the 3d model is? How will you use it?
If your budget is tight you might try a local community college or trade school. A student may be interested in helping you for the sake of experience.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] 3D Virtual Imaging
Hello all,
I am trying to recreate the interior rooms of an antebellum house during different time periods using 3d virtual imaging technology. I have used Google SketchUp in the past to recreate the exteriors of buildings but have found that the program is not well-suited for recreating interiors. Does anyone have a suggestion for a program that I could use for this project?
