Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] How to remove a photograph stuck to a glass frame...

Dan beat me to what I was going to say.

Scan it as high a resolution as you can, I doubt you can get it off the glass without damage, but scanning will preserve the image.

I'd take the glass out of the frame and see if you can scan it through the glass before trying anything else.

Hello world,

This is not a work-related question, but I thought I'd tap the collected wisdom.  I have a photograph that has gotten stuck to the glass that was framing it (the result of a faulty radiator and unfortunate leakage), and it is now stuck, seemingly, for good.  Any tentative attempts to peel the photo off has resulted in tearing.  This is my only copy of the photograph and I am kicking myself for 'simply' housing it in a frame behind glass (rather putting some sort of protective layer in front of it)...it's a Kodak picture of my grandmother, circa 1974.

Any thoughts on how to remove the photograph safely?  I've read that carefully blow-drying the back of the photo may help, but that seems a bit DIY and dicey to me...if I can get it removed, I'm certainly planning on scanning and re-mastering the image for posterity like a good digital archivist.

Thank you!
