Innovative and accessible program...

As a museum professional, a solid understanding of the significance of cultural heritage around the world, along with strategic skills that enable you to be an insightful professional and leader, are critical foundations for cultural heritage practice.  You can develop these by participating in UVic’s innovative new program, an accessible online five-course Graduate Professional Certificate (GPC) in Cultural Heritage Studies. This forward-looking part-time program is designed to complement your work in diverse specializations in the museum sector.

An emphasis on stewardship and sustainability...

You begin the five-course program with the course Cultural Heritage Stewardship and Sustainability (CH 560) exploring both the importance of cultural heritage in contemporary society and the many ways in which diverse forms of cultural heritage are cared for and shared. The themes of stewardship and sustainability run throughout subsequent courses, along with contemporary issues and themes of ethical practice and community engagement. You are consistently challenged to relate your studies to practical cultural heritage circumstances and issues in your community or workplace.

Specialized courses...

After completing the first course, you focus your next three GPC courses by taking the following in sequential terms:

Select your final course from either an internship or an online or short on-campus intensive course suited to your needs from the range of specialized offerings from our Cultural Resource Management Program.
