Candice,

Take a look at our Adopt an Artifact program. http://www.milwaukeehistory.net/artifacts/adopt-an-artifact/

We created it out of our 75th anniversary in 2010, and made the fee to adopt very reasonable ($25) to attract the common visitor. We have not yet made the decision to drive the program via conservation, but rather to generate a greater interest in our collections.

Hope this helps

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] "adopting" collections

Good morning – I am looking for examples of museum that have programs to adopt artifacts/works of art, primarily for conservation purposes, but fundraising also. What are the pitfalls? Does someone have a good procedure in place for doing this? History museum preferably, but I suppose it works in any circumstance.

Thanks,

Candace Perry
