Temporary (February 2012 through October, 2013) grant-funded cataloger position available. As a result of Council of Library and Information Resources Hidden Collections grant funding the Mennonite Heritage Center, the Goschenhoppen Historians, Inc. and the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, all located in Montgomery County, PA approximately one hour north west of Philadelphia, are seeking detail oriented, efficient and fast learning individual to catalog their Pennsylvania German textile collections. The successful applicant will have the extraordinary opportunity to work with three important culturally specific collections dating from the late 18th century to the mid 20th century, with the end result to be an online catalog, the first of its kind for organizations that interpret Pennsylvania German history and culture. Requirements include an advanced degree, or enrollment in a graduate program in museum studies, or American history/museum studies/American studies/decorative arts, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of textiles, ranging from hand spinning and weaving, costume, needlework and quilts; knowledge of Pennsylvania German cultural heritage; experience with PastPerfect and photography skills are a major plus. Knowledge of the German language and/or Pennsylvania German dialect useful but not necessary. New museum professionals are encouraged to apply. Salary is $41,000 annually plus health insurance.
