Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Director of Museum Studies, which will include a .50 administrative appointment and .50 teaching /research/service responsibilities. The successful applicant will join a moderate sized program with an established MA program and diverse graduate curriculum. The University of Kansas, with more than 25,000 students and 1,300 faculty members on the Lawrence campus, is the major educational and research institution in the state. The University employs a modest number of adjunct lecturers in Museum Studies; the Director will be the first full-time member of the Program. The Program is located on the ground floor of Lippincott Hall. The Kansas University Library system provides a Museum Studies Bibliographer, resources collection, and essential support of research and instruction. The University has two major museums, the Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Institute and the Spencer Art Museum, an excellent book and manuscript collection in the Spencer Research Library, and important smaller collections such as the Wilcox Classical Museum.

The Director and Professor of Museum Studies will exercise leadership of the Museum Studies Program, in museum studies research, teach graduate courses, supervise theses, and chair examination committees. She or he is expected to promote interaction among scholars in related fields and to provide service to the program, the University and the profession. There is an expectation of substantial and continuing sustained research and administrative productivity.
