Qualifications


A high school education and one year experience in art storage and display methods, techniques and  procedures, exhibit displays, display design, and installation.  May include framing, art installation, construction and finishing, carpentry work, alterations and repairs.  Professional experience in the Preparation field.  Experience creating object mounts or display components for exhibitions.
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of collections management to include proper handling, installation, preservation, and/or maintenance.
Knowledge of art storage and display methods, techniques, and procedures.
Knowledge of exhibit displays, display design and installation.  May include framing, art installation, construction and finishing, carpentry work, alterations and repairs.
Ability to interpret technical and artistic designs and create a final product.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Ability to coordinate shipping and receiving activities including packaging products for shipment and delivery and/or receiving inbound packages and processing appropriate documentation.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position to include climbing ladders, and lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.  Ability to travel.  Valid driver*s license.


Background Check Requirements


This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.

This position requires compliance with University confidentiality policies.


Preferred


A bachelor's degree.  Mount-making/woodworking skills, an ability to creatively solve problems, and a willingness to participate in all aspects of exhibition implementation.


Schedule


If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5. May be required to work weekends or evenings .May be required to travel (nationally or internationally) to serve as a Museum
courier. Assignments are based on the needs of the Museum. Courier training and
certification is required prior to the incumbent serving in this capacity.

Responsibilities


Assists in moving, and handling traveling exhibition collections. Assists with or may
install exhibitions and lighting to include painting walls and pedestals as needed in
all venues. Assists with production of exhibit label and didactics. Assists with
packing and unpacking works of art. Assists the curators on exhibition design and
fabrication.
Establishes collection maintenance schedule for all Museum venues and
implements. Includes gallery lighting upkeep, general gallery upkeep, maintenance
and repairs of gallery decorative art objects and furnishings.
Constructs object mounts, builds display cases, pedestals and plinths for
exhibitions. Constructs and dismantles temporary walls/partitions for exhibitions.
Mats and frames works of art. Fabricates crates for international and domestic
transport of fine art.
Assists with movement of artwork and other items in the permanent collection and
on loan. Drives motorized vehicles to fulfill job duties.


Pay Plan


This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position. Preference will be given to eligible veterans and their spouses with proper documentation (applicants must submit a copy of their DD214 with their online application).
