The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum seeks two (2) highly motivated individuals to fill the full-time position of Collections Assistant for a two-year grant funded term. These individuals will join the Collections team in an effort to gain physical and intellectual control over the Museum’s collections. Under the supervision of the Collections Manager, the two Collections Assistants will participate in a full inventory and relocation of the Museum’s object collections. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS (MA preferred) in Museum Studies, History or other relevant discipline Minimum of 1-2 years museum registration and/or collections experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  This person will have experience with object handling and preventative conservation; knowledge of accepted museum registration and collections management procedures and practices; experience with collections management databases (TMS preferred), cataloguing standards and controlled vocabularies. The candidate must be technically literate, including experience with digital photography and the processing and management of digital media. He/she must have strong organizational, interpersonal and computer skills.  The candidate must be able to maneuver through dimly lit narrow passageways, climb up/down steep ladders and move heavy collections objects with assistance. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary.
