General Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Publications and Editorial Services, the Editorial Assistant will provide a high level of administrative and editorial support for the Department of Publications and Editorial Services. Qualifications: Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's Degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience writing and/or editing for print and electronic media. Experience working with the Chicago Manual of Style and house style guides. Familiarity with Mac and PC platforms. Excellent writing, editorial, proofreading, and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated accuracy and strong attention to detail. Ability to work well under pressure with a variety of people on a wide range of projects. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet demanding deadlines. Proven ability to work independently, regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment, take initiative, anticipate actions needed, and resolve issues. Demonstrated ability to work closely with a small, professional staff, frequently under deadlines. Positive attitude that supports departments goals. Strong knowledge of art history. Excellent computer skills, including solid experience with Word, Excel, Outlook/Entourage calendar, InDesign, Photoshop, and databases. Preferred: Experience in project management; BA in art history, English, journalism, or a related field and/or two years experience in publishing; experience working in a museum environment; experience in a team-based management environment; experience with printing processes, image preparation, and color correction; familiarity with The Museum System (TMS) or other relational databases.
