“Participating in MAP has been a wonderful exercise in taking a good look at what and where we are, and where we could be going. The assessment report is a great resource to keep us moving forward.” - Julianne Snider, Earth & Mineral Sciences Museum & Art Gallery, University Park, PA

This month, the Museum Assessment Program (MAP) turns 30! Since 1981, MAP has helped over 4,300 museums strengthen operations, plan for the future and meet standards through self-assessment and receive a consultative site visit from an expert peer reviewer. Your museum can be the next to participate in MAP. There is still time to apply for the July 1 deadline. The program takes less than a year so museums can begin making changes immediately.

MAP has helped museums achieve:

* an increased level of professionalism among museum staff

* improved communications between staff, board and other constituents

* a clearer focus on the museum's mission and planning

* greater credibility with potential funders and donors

* national recognition of the museum's desire to achieve excellence through self-improvement
