MUSEUM EDUCATOR – BENNINGTON MUSEUM


 Applications are now being accepted for the position of Museum Educator at
the Bennington Museum in Bennington, Vermont. The Museum Educator will be
primarily responsible for the museum's educational programming, including
programs for children and adults.


 This is a part-time position, 30 hours per week, $12 per hour.


 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include:



   -

   Develop and implement educational programming that supports the mission
   of the Bennington Museum.
   -

   Work with regional schools, including those in southwestern Vermont, the
   Berkshire region of Massachusetts, and the Capital region of New York, to
   encourage usage of Bennington Museum's programming and to develop new
   programs that meet the learning standards of these states.
   -

   Teach programs in and outside of the museum, including a preschool story
   hour, school programs, programs for families, workshops for children, etc.
   -

   Plan and coordinate programs for adults by outside presenters that will
   support the mission of the museum and be of interest to the community.
   -

   Maintain and organize educational materials, including working with the
   Collections Manager to develop a system of cataloging educational artifacts.
   -

   Prepare and present reports as needed.
   -

   Other duties as assigned.


 QUALIFICATIONS include:



   -

   Minimum of Bachelor's degree in education, museum education, or other
   related field.
   -

   Experience teaching elementary school-aged children, especially in
   informal, out-of-school settings.
   -

   Familiarity with VT, NY, and/or MA State Learning Standards.
   -

   Thorough understanding of educational development, inquiry-based and
   hands-on teaching strategies.
   -

   An interest in history, arts, and especially the history and culture of
   the southern Vermont region.
   -

   Visitor-oriented, friendly, professional. Must enjoy working with the
   public, especially with children.
   -

   Flexibility in scheduling, including occasional weekend and evening work.
   -

   Ability to work well with others and to work well independently with
   minimal supervision.
   -

   Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and/or Open Office, and
   Internet use.
   -

   Be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or
   move up to 50 pounds while handling program supplies, and able to be on feet
   for several hours at a time.
