I attended a conference in the fall and a gentleman from the Ah-ta-thi-ki Museum (Seminole Tribe of FL), was talking about their use of the Microsoft Surface. I've been there and used it and it's pretty neat! Different than just an interactive computer display... I don't have any pictures, but here are the notes I took from his presentation: Microsoft Surface Touch table for interactive displays 30" LCD screen, 250 touch points, multi people can use (iphones have 2 touch points) Object recognition, ie: set down camera and photos "spill out" onto screen Go through Microsoft and work w/ developer Versatile, cutting edge, $$$ ($15,000 ea + development costs) Expandable (250bg + USB ports) Cloning potential - can create "museum in a box" and have @ multi locations *Developer - Quatrefoil, long time in mus business Noticed patrons 30+ yrs, needed signage about how to use, 30- yrs just started playing. Have at the MET and NMAI. Too new, not a lot of stats on it yet. I hope this helps! -Jaime Jaime L. I have been asked to look into the cost of getting an interactive touch screen kiosk for our museum. We have, as part of one of our exhibits, a local veteran's memorial of sorts, which consists of photos of veterans with their name, branch of service, and birth/death dates posted on the wall. It is a very popular part of the museum, and people really enjoy looking for friends, relatives, schoolmates, etc. The problem is that we are facing a severe lack of space in that area (there is no good way to expand it), and we recently got the final photo that will comfortably fit. One solution that has been proposed and well received is an interactive kiosk that will allow people to search for an individual by name or branch of service, or simply view a slideshow of the images with captions. There are many options for kiosks out there- few of which I truly understand, because I have never purchased or set up something like this. Any advice about brands, software, cost, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks! -Cass Casandra Karl Director Mission Historical Museum ________________________________ To unsubscribe from the MUSEUM-L list, click the following link: http://home.ease.lsoft.com/scripts/wa.exe?SUBED1=MUSEUM-L&A=1 ========================================================= Important Subscriber Information: The Museum-L FAQ file is located at http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/ .
