Unfortunately I found this quote on an excellent page of FAQ about volunteering at this museum

"...Can I volunteer for Museum Victoria at home?
No, unfortunately you cannot. This is because of the insurance implications if anything were to happen to you

while you were carrying out ‘museum business’ at home...."
http://museumvictoria.com.au/about/work-opportunities/volunteering/museum-victoria--volunteering-faqs/

I've never heard of this potential problem and I've been a non-profit agency exec associated with 2,000 volunteers!
I could suggest make phone calls, PR writing, host speaker presentations ("teas), craft-DIY projects, clean objects not of a sensitive nature, I could prepare bibliographies and reading lists and research some topics, provide temp work/office space for a staff member en route to here and there (lunch-phone-computer, bathroom-desk), sew, ---???

Right now, as some of you know, I'm "volunteering" on your list to help locate some of the answers to some of the questions you folks ask.
My living room is my work site. Fun for me - sometimes useful to you who don't have searching time.

Best wishes, Barbara, retired librarian

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] At home volunteering

We are a small prehistoric Native American focused Museum.

I will appreciate any suggestions on the subject of “at home” volunteering. We recently surveyed our visitors and found that 42% would like to have “at home” volunteer opportunities. Right off the top, except for those with specialized skills like graphic design or language translation, our ideas are limited to data entry and scanning documents.

Does anyone have experience or insights with this type volunteer opportunity.

Thanks,

Robert Connolly
