My niece is a lighting designer so I forwarded your question to her.  Below is Amy’s response:

The LSI LumeLex 2040 series tracklight is the equivalent of a high-end Mercedes.

Due to the remote phosphor design, worries of color shift of the light source itself are minimized.

Manufacturer should provide a minimum of 5 year warranty on the product.

Be sure to understand when 70% of lumen output is reached to determine when the light source module needs replaced.

If budget is not a concern, then this product is fine.

If budget is a concern, there are other LED products which do a great job.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] LumeLex 2040 Lights

We are considering updating our gallery lighting, since our current system dates from the 1960s.  The University would like us to use LumeLex 2040 series which uses LED lights. Has anyone had any experiences using this system in exhibit galleries?
