Colonial Williamsburg recently opened an exhibit in its DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum about the process of reconstructing Charlton's Coffee House, which involved moving a late 19th century house from the 18th century site, doing archaeology and then using the tools of historic preservation (examining remnants of the 18th century house that had been incorporated into the 19th century one, for example), to do a very accessible exhibit.  Contact Patricia Balderson, manager of museum education, for more information.
