The Historic House Museum I was Director of in Arizona closed in August for
upkeep and repairs. But is the same idea since January in Arizona is a big
tourist time we closed when it was 115 out and nobody in their right mind is out
walking and touring.

Good Morning Ms. Boyd,
Historic house museums usually need an annual block of time to do necessary
repairs, cleaning and care of the collections, and other activities, which are
best done when the facilities are closed.
For decades, this museum system’s two historic houses are closed during the
months of January and February for “deep” cleaning of the homes interiors,
annual collections inventory, collection care and condition reports, and
necessary repairs/renovations to the facilities, and sometimes major
conservation projects, such as allowing a conservator to annually have two
months of uninterrupted time -- to surface clean, consolidate, and in-paint an
ornately illustrated ceiling.
Best wishes,
Wesley

Subject: closed in Jan?

Hello all-
I would like some informal feedback regarding how many historic house museums
represented here are closed or open by appointment only during the month of
January. I am putting together a recommendation that we do this to take to the
higher ups.

Thanks in advance-
