Apologies for cross posting Curatorial Assistant Internship Valence House Museum London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Valence House Museum has just reopened following a major HLF redevelopment project. Based in Dagenham, the Museum details the history of the local area. Summary of role Valence House Museum seeks motivated interns to assist the Curator in the care and display of the Museum collection. This will involve cataloguing collections, maintenance of galleries and displays, preparation and instillation of exhibitions, preparation for the move of the Museum collection to a new, purpose built store, plus the chance to liaise with other members of professional staff, contractors and specialists. There will also be opportunity to assist the Heritage Gallery Wardens in their daily tasks, with the outcome that the candidate will be able to lead public tours of the Museum. The internship will commence in December 2010 (date to be finalised) and will finish in June 2011, with the possibility of an extension. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to commit to a normal working day (9:00 - 17:00), 5 days per week. However, this is negotiable. There is no remuneration for this position, although travelling expenses will be paid to those travelling within the Greater London area. Time off will be permissible. Candidates should be graduate of, or a student in, the field of Museum Studies. They must be motivated, have good organisational skills, and work well under self direction. Basic computer skills are essential, especially in Access and Excel, and experience of AdLib cataloguing systems is preferable, although all training will be provided. The internship is intended to benefit both VHM and the intern. This will be a very "hands-on" internship where candidates will be gaining practical and valuable skills for a future career in the museum field.
