Position Available: Exhibit Designer 
 
Classification: Part-time, Non-Exempt 
 
Department: Visitor Experience 
 
General Summary: Function as a key member of the Visitor Experience team by providing design solutions for guided, self-directed, immersive, and interactive experiences centered on trees that engage target audiences and effectively convey institutional messages. 
 
Job Qualifications 
Previous Training and Experience: 
B.A. or certificate in exhibit design, industrial design, commercial art, architecture, interior design, or theater design with 3-5 years experience in exhibition design, preferably in a museum or cultural attraction. Additional experience in graphic design, exhibit production, model making, or media development is desirable. Must be proficient in 3D modeling/rendering software (Form-Z, 3-D Studio Max, etc.) with skill in creating detail drawings for production (AutoCAD; VectorWorks) and demonstrated competency in two-dimensional design. Proficiency in QuarkXpress, Adobe CS Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a Macintosh Operating System is required as well as a working knowledge of current industry trends, exhibit design standards, fabrication techniques and use of materials, finishes, and processes. 
 
Physical/Mental Requirements: 
Ability to create original 3D design solutions that will engage Arboretum audiences and effectively convey institutional messages. Effective communication – verbal, written, and illustrative – with a wide variety of staff, customers, volunteers, and vendors. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize simultaneous projects to meet ongoing deadlines. Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, project-based team environment; attention to detail, accuracy, and quality. 
 
Working Conditions 
• Fast-paced office setting. 
• Work is performed in a combined indoor (90%) and outdoor (10%) setting. 
• Requires prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing.
