Brown Bag Lectures

Here at Locust Grove in Louisville we offer a monthly lecture series at 1:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. I was skeptical when I first came here, but we get a good crowd (60-80 people, as many as 100) most months. Many are of course retired people, including our volunteers, but depending on the topic or the speaker we get a range of attendees from students to business people despite the time of day. It has become a social occasion, and we have some great volunteer bakers who bring in cookies and brownies and other homemade baked goods, which we serve with coffee and iced tea. For reference, we’re located in a suburban neighborhood within 15 minutes of downtown. This year we are thinking of trying a Sunday afternoon lecture once or twice to offer to those who just can’t get free on a weekday.

Subject: Brown Bag Lectures

We are bouncing around the idea of doing Brown Bag lectures.  Our usual lecture series was Sunday afternoon, but now we are thinking of trying it during the week.  Has anyone done this? Has it been successful?
