The Adler Planetarium, Chicago, IL, is seeking a Senior Educator For Early Science Programs to take the lead on design of materials, training and professional development for preschool and early grades science initiatives serving school audiences. This temporary position will report to the Associate Director for School and Teacher Programs and will begin in
October, 2010 and will end in October, 2013.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research, design and fabricate activity kits and activities for preschool and early grades classrooms;
- Research, design and deliver professional development opportunities for early grades and preschool teachers;
- Liaise with in-school coaches and staff at other museums for a city-wide early science initiative;
Work with other Adler staff on early grades field trip design, deployment and evaluation as well as on family programs serving students in young grades.
Education and Experience:
- B.A. in elementary education or early childhood certificate;
- A science education endorsement and certification in early childhood focus and/or a Masters’ degree is preferred;
- Three to five years classroom experience and/or experience in development and design of curricular materials for early grades and teacher training;
- Teaching, teacher training and materials development experience is preferred.
