Museum Director and Chief Curator – The Naples Museum of Art, Naples,
Florida
The Naples Museum of Art, founded in 2000 and located on the Gulf of Mexico
in Southwest Florida, is the region’s most comprehensive fine arts museum
dedicated to displaying world-class painting, sculpture, drawing and other
art forms in a variety of media, styles and periods. Exhibitions, extensive
educational programming, lectures, tours and other events enhance the
visitor experience for people of all ages and backgrounds. A department of
the Philharmonic Center for the Arts, the Museum is located in a 30,000 sq.
ft. three-story building that contains 15 galleries, a domed conservatory,
resource room, museum store and a café.   
The growing collection of more than 2,000 works of art includes strengths in
American Modernism by such artists as Marsden Hartley, Arthur Dove, Helen
Torr, Jackson Pollock and Alexander Calder.  In addition, the Museum’s
Mexican Modern Masters collection is rich in works representing the most
important movements and artists of 20th-century Mexico including Diego
Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Rosa Rolanda.  
The Director and Chief Curator is responsible for the day-to-day management
of the Museum under the direction of the Chairman and CEO and advisement of
the Museum Executive Committee.  The position supervises the Exhibitions
Designer, Education Coordinator, Registrar, Curators, Preparators, Art
Handlers, Administrative Assistant and Store Manager.   
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
·	General management of day-to-day activities of the museum;
developing and implementing museum policies and procedures, determining
goals, responsibilities, and delegation of duties within Museum department 
			1	Develop plans and directions for all
permanent collections including protection, preservation and establishment
of conservation plans for collection objects 
			2	Strategically plan for future collecting;
overseeing acquisitions and deaccessions on a timely basis 
			3	Recommending and planning of each season’s
exhibition schedule at least one year in advance 
			4	Organizing and supervising of all curatorial
aspects of exhibitions including developing and overseeing at least one
original exhibition per year 
			5	Developing a catalogue of the permanent
collection 
			6	Developing and overseeing a written plan and
timeline to seek accreditation with the American Association of Museums 
			7	Overseeing all educational programming for
the museum including preparation of materials and arrangement for speakers 
			8	Projecting and maintaining annual budget for
museum department 
			9	Hiring and terminating of museum staff in
accordance with the museum’s guidelines and procedures 
			10	Working with CEO in the development of
museum marketing materials 
			11	Meeting with the museum advisory committee
on a regular basis
			12	Serving as the Liaison with Friends of Art 
			13	Working with CEO and Director of Development
to establish fundraising initiatives 
			14	Attending professional conferences and
events as a representative of the museum  
			15	Effectively working with all PCA staff under
the established PCA policies and procedures. 
Qualifications for the position include: 
·	Advanced degree in Art History or Museum Studies
			1	Ten to fifteen years experience in a
Director position within a museum with a permanent collection and a focus on
modern and contemporary art 
			2	Ten years of progressively responsible
curatorial experience within modern and contemporary art 
			3	Demonstrated knowledge of and experience
with best practices and ethics for all collections activities 
			4	Demonstrated knowledge of and experience
with environmental monitoring and conservation/preservation protocols for
collections care 
			5	Experience working with exhibition teams,
including curators, registrars, installers and shippers 
			6	Experience with cultivation of long-term
relationships with and recognition of donors 
			7	Excellent management skills 
			8	Knowledge of general fiscal practices and
budgeting 
			9	Excellent verbal and written communication
skills 
			10	Ability to establish and maintain effective
relationships with other management staff, employees, and the general public

			11	Ability to present facts and recommendations
effectively in oral and written form.
