I am posting this request for information on behalf of a client's client. They are a small insitution with a small budget and no endowment; they are seeking to improve their Collections Storage Area and have asked if there are exisiting texts or resources (out there that they can tap into so as to better serve their cdollections storage goals

Some of their questions include thoughts like: Do we need to HEPA filter the incoming air?  Does it need to be charcoal filtered?

Does the air from the Quarantine area need to be thrown away in case mould spores etc. are brought in on new material?  How special is “Special Storage”?  Is there anything special to do with the exhaust air from the Cold Room.

Will the Quarantine area need UV light? Is there anything special about the smoke and fire detection system?  Do the windowless spaces need more or special kinds of strobes and horns?  Has any consideration been given to emergency power for this space?  Are the documents etc. so valuable that they need emergency heat or cooling  in the event of a prolonged power outage?
