Erika,

Sounds good.  I am sure with environmental monitoring, you are also considering the safety of the actual storage materials from a preservation standpoint.  I would also along those lines consider the proximity of materials, meaning certain materials should be stored a distance from others due to the fact that over time they can be harmful to other materials.  Proper storage certainly helps mitigate these risks, but not storing them right next to each other, unless for accession reasons they need to be, might not be a bad preventative step to take.  We often focus on the materials that we store artifacts in, but the organization of the storage space is key too.

Museum-L

Hello all-

I am a museum studies grad student at JFKU.  As part of my internship project I am assessing a framed works collection (documents, photos, art, some mixed media) and was wondering if anyone had ideas or a checklist of items I should keep in mind when working on a conservation-oriented project.  I've started with environmental monitoring and kind of working my though the needs of the materials that the objects are made of.  I'm just looking to make sure that I address all of the key elements that will help make the project a success.  Thanks!

Best,

Erika Borgan
