Historic
clothing
requires properly sized mannequins to achieve the appropriate look while
supporting the garment.
Here's the rub: commercial store
mannequins are often the wrong size, wrong shape and made from poor quality
materials; purchased, custom-made mannequins are while having a great fit and
are made from quality materials are expensive; and most museum-made mannequins
require a lot of time and artistic talent to create.
A solution for those doing an exhibit
with a tight
budget and
tight
schedule
is the pole mannequin. This mannequin is easily made from artifact safe,
everyday materials that your museum may have on hand and/or can purchase at
local stores.
Participants
will come away with:
· An
understanding of the importance of the right fit for historic
garments
· A knowledge of materials
safe to use with historic
clothing
· Sources
for
inexpensive
and possibly
free materials
· Projects
for your volunteers, young and
old
· Hands on opportunity to make a
mannequin
· A scaled mannequin to
take back to your museum
