Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Non-exhibit Janitorial Advice Needed

Happy Friday everyone!

I posted this a few days ago, but didn’t get any responses, so I am going to try this again!  I am looking for some advice in establishing janitorial guidelines in our exhibit galleries because we currently have none.  How often are your galleries vacuumed, swept, or mopped?  What types of cleaning products are used?  I just found pledge in our janitorial closet and I believe they are using it on the woodwork, such as railings, trim, etc.  While I don’t mind the smell of citrus in my own home, what about the impact the chemicals/odors will have indirectly on the artifacts?  I am being asked to come up with guidelines so that I can establish a janitorial cleaning (non-artifact) policy.

Thanks,

Julie
