Good afternoon Everyone,

My museum is based primarily on a collection of ship models that depict various eras of naval history.  Though our museum has been in existence for 10 years, we are just now starting to move away from the "Grandma's Attic" towards a more professional standard of curation, cataloguing, and preservation.

We are about to launch our first comprehensive inventory during which time we will ensure our accession numbers are consistent and that each item is properly labeled.  Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to label ship models?  My first inclination was traditional tag labels, but these are very difficult to hide on the smaller ships that we have on display.  My second thought was some variety of the B-72 solvent, but most of our models are made of wood, which is (I believe) too porous for the solution.  Any suggestions or recommendations would be welcome!

In addition, we are looking for a way to evaluate or classify our models based on objective criteria.  If you are familiar with any sort of categorization or rating system for models, I would appreciate that information as well.

Thank you for your time,

Abbie
