National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, Leadville, Colorado – Summer Internships
Join the National Mining Museum’s team for a summer of museum learning and fun in the Colorado Rockies. The internship provides for a wide array of duties, offering an optimal learning experience for those interested in pursuing a career in the humanities.
The intern will divide hours between the Museum and our associated historic site in Admissions, Gift Shop, and Museum Projects.
Responsibilities for Admissions and Gift Shop include, but are not limited to:
Provide helpful, friendly customer service to museum guests
Use cash register and credit card machine to transact purchases/admissions
Thoroughly complete projects and duties as assigned
Maintain attractive appearance in gift shop and museum entrance; this includes straightening up and light cleaning duties
Stocking merchandise and conducting inventory
Become familiar with history to escort guests on tours
Museum Projects
Projects will range from a wide variety of museum related tasks, such as assist curator with collections management, exhibit development and design, assist in library and archive department, work on educational programming, site interpretation, marketing and community development, etc. We will work with intern to identify projects which correlate with their interests and career goals.
Qualifications
Prefer candidates who are interested in pursuing a humanities related career. Must be willing to learn, be a self starter and have the desire to complete thorough work. Must be able to multi-task and have good time management skills. Candidates should be able to work well with others, and independently, as well as possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. Basic computer skills required.
Other
We have multiple internship openings available and are accepting all interested applicants. Along with interns interested in curatorial work, we are looking for interns interested in museum education and archives/library work.
Salary
Current salary for the internship is $7.25 per hour. The position is part time, roughly 4 days a week though this is flexible.
Dates
Internship is for the duration of the summer with the possibility of extending through the winter. One position opens April 1 and the others begin in the month of May (dates negotiable).
