My organization is attempting to locate a painting, which we hope to feature in an upcoming book project.

Isabel Bishop

Blowing Smoke Rings

Oil on gesso panel, 38.1 x 30.4 cm.

We are interested in securing the reproduction rights for an upcoming book project we are working on, The Art of JAMA III. We have secured a contract with a publisher and are still attempting to locate the painting.

I have been checking with both private galleries and public collections to see if anyone might lend me some insight into its possible location or current owner.

The painting was originally consigned to the Midtown Galleries in New York, which has since closed. We originally published the work on the cover of The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), on December 11, 1991. The work was reproduced in the monograph Isabel Bishop by Helen Yglesias and published by Rizzoli International Publications, Inc., New York, NY in 1989. At that time it was listed as being in the collection of Mrs. Jean Howard (an unfortunately, common name). However, I suspect that since we published the work in 1991 and credited it to a gallery, it has since changed hands.

Any insight into other resources I might look into would be greatly appreciated.
