STAFF INTERPRETER
DUNBAR HOUSE/OLD COURT HOUSE/MEMORIAL HALL
Position Description:
The
Staff Interpreter will assist the Director of Education and Museum
Operations in planning and conducting daily historical interpretation,
demonstrations, public programs and educational workshops at the Paul
Laurence Dunbar State Memorial, Old Montgomery County Courthouse,
Memorial Hall and other Dayton History sites as needed. The successful
candidate will work a Wednesday through Sunday schedule, with periodic
evening commitments.
Duties Include:
Mastering historically
accurate information pertaining to Dayton History's collections and
exhibits conducting both structured and improvisational educational
programs, assisting in the training and continuing education of
volunteer interpreters, occasional participation in community outreach
programs, physical tasks associated with program implementation
throughout a 65-acre site and other varied historic structures and
campuses, and other tasks as assigned by the Director of Education and
Museum Operations or Assistant Education Director
The position
is a full-time, permanent, salaried one with the expectation of a
minimum 40-hour workweek, some evening assignments and regular weekend
duties. The salary range is $20,000 to $24,000, dependent upon
qualifications. The position carries health, disability, life insurance
and retirement benefits that are available after a 30-day introductory
period.
Qualifications:
A degree in education, history, or
a closely related field, as well as experience in museum interpretation
is required. The individual in this position will have strong
communication skills, be efficient, be a problem solver, be able to
work with diverse individuals, deal well with the unexpected, and
maintain a professional attitude and appearance in all interactions
with clients, staff, volunteers, and the visiting public.

EDUCATION ASSISTANT
Position Description:
Education
Assistants at Carillon Historical Park are responsible for the
instruction of the Park's educational workshops and for performing
educational demonstrations in the Park's exhibit buildings. Individuals
in this position are responsible for mastering the instruction of
educational workshop programs, contributing to their evaluation and
assisting in the maintenance of associated materials. This position
reports to the Assistant Director of Education. The position is
part-time, hourly and seasonal with a schedule of 20-30 hours per week,
including regular weekend assignments, between March 1 and October 31.
Pay rate is $9.00 per hour.
Qualifications:
A degree in
education, history, or a closely related field, as well as experience
in teaching or an equivalent supervisory role is required. The
individual in this capacity must be a skilled teacher who enjoys all
ages and backgrounds, be efficient and flexible, and have strong
organizational skills.
