Hi Teri,
I also work at a small, free museum. We have a sign in book to
track visitors. This works well for us because visitors have to ring a bell to
enter the building, so the procedure is to let the visitor in and then sign
them in the book. We count of the number of visitors at the end of the year by adding
up the numbers on each page.
The book is also useful because it tells us where our visitors
are coming from, and we use this information to calculate statistics about our
audience.
Hope this is helpful.
Sincerely yours,
Lauren

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] People Counters
Hello Listers,
We are a small university art museum that is free to the public. As such, we do
not issue tickets, stickers, buttons, etc. Visitors just walk in to view our
exhibitions from two separate entrances.
For a number of years we have been using an Amseco Entry/Exit Traffic Counter
(model # EBP-407C) to count our visitors. It has been replaced several times
during my tenure and is neither accurate nor reliable.
My question is, what are other museums with similar setups using? Is there a product
you would recommend or recommend we avoid?
Many thanks in advance for your input!
Best,
Teri
