Curatorial Summer Internship position

 

Planting Fields Foundation’s mission is to preserve and interpret Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park as the premier public garden and Gold Coast estate for today and tomorrow by educating, enriching, and entertaining the visiting public.

 

Position Description:

-         Assist Curatorial Department with daily operations of Coe Hall Historic House Museum

-         Open and close exhibitions in two museum locations

-         Schedule volunteer docents and receptionists for open shifts

-         Assist with tours and the creation of interpretive materials

-         Assist in the research of upcoming exhibitions, exhibit preparation and development of exhibit text

 

Position begins June 7, 2010; ends August 14, 2010.  This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

 

Qualifications

-         Current enrollment in a Masters program in art history, public history, historic preservation, museum studies or other related field at an accredited institution.

-         Competent computer skills required.  Must be comfortable with MS word, working knowledge of Excel and Photoshop preferred.

 

Compensation:

-         Paid stipend $10/hour.

-         Room in newly renovated dormitory wing of the historic Hay barn (board not included).

 

Planting Fields Foundation is located approximately three miles from the town of Oyster Bay.
