Description

This job exists to lead the Church History Museum and to collaborate with other divisions and department leadership teams. The purpose of the Church History Museum is to support the Church History Department in achieving its mission in collecting, preserving, and sharing its holdings and expertise with the larger public audience. To succeed in this role, the new museum director must provide leadership to help the museum evolve from a traditionally-focused regional history and art museum into an expansive history and art museum focused on the global story of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This leader must be able and willing to work closely with other Church departments and entities to reach the broadest audience of the museum's key stakeholders, while at the same time upholding the highest professional museum standards of collections, preservation, and audience needs, and providing management of the museum's physical facilities.

 

Qualifications

• Master's degree (PhD preferred) in museum studies, history, art history, or related discipline
• 10 years relevant professional experience 
• A minimum 5 years of significant leadership experience, including: planning, aligning functions and/or manpower to organizational priorities, setting employee priorities, implementing new processes, negotiating, hiring personnel, coaching supervisors, and overseeing performance management
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate large groups of employees, mastery of planning skills, passionate leadership, collaborative skills, and global vision
• Working knowledge of museum and exhibit operations
• Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and worthy to hold a temple recommend
