INFORMAL LEARNING SOLUTIONS WORKSHOP: WRITING WINNING GRANT PROPOSALS FOR INFORMAL LEARNING PROJECTS Workshop Leader: Robert L. Russell, Informal Learning Solutions _www.informallearningsolutions.com_ (http://www.informallearningsolutions.com/) Washington, DC: Saturday, November 14, 2009, 10 am - 4 pm This one-day workshop introduces the fundamentals of effective project planning, culminating in the development of a grant proposal for major funding. In the morning session, goal setting, needs assessment, program design, program management, budgeting, and evaluation are introduced through presentation, lively discussion, and individual and small-group exercises. The afternoon session focuses on proposal presentation, including an introduction to basic elements in writing winning grants, an overview of funding sources, and a "hands-on" mock grant review by participants, using actual grant proposals that have been submitted to federal agencies and private foundations for funding. Participants will receive copies of sample grant proposals and an extensive manual covering project planning, federal funding sources, and informal education resources. Recent participants in the workshop have commented: "I am a novice so this was a great introduction that broadened my understanding ." "The manual clarified many aspects of grantwriting." "I especially liked the highly interactive aspects of the workshop." Workshop leader Russell is a former Program Director, Informal Science Education/National Science Foundation; science and children's museum director; project planing, evaluation, and grant development consultant; and developer/project director of many museum and media projects funded by NIH, NSF, NEH, and other federal agencies. .
