Environmental Education Specialist

 

Heritage Museums & Gardens, a museum of American history, industry, art
and horticulture on Cape Cod, seeks a creative and enthusiastic
individual to join a dynamic team of educators, coordinating and
implementing educational activities in Hidden Hollow, the museum's new
family discovery garden.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

 

*        Planning and developing new programs, events and related
support materials designed to serve families and community youth groups

*        Assisting with the development of curriculum-based programs for
students from preschool to grade three

*        Developing and presenting teacher and parent/caregiver training
programs

*        Assisting with the integration of environmental education into
existing programming

*        Leading formal programs for family, youth group and school
audiences and providing informal interpretation to general daily family
visitors in Hidden Hollow

*        Conducting evaluation of formal programs and informal
experiences in Hidden Hollow

*        Training, scheduling and supervising paid and volunteer staff
to deliver interpretation for general daily visitors in Hidden Hollow

*        Managing and maintaining Hidden Hollow educational materials
and program schedule on a daily basis

*        Coordinating design, production and distribution of print and
electronic materials used to advertise Hidden Hollow activities

*        Connecting target audiences to Hidden Hollow educational
resources by conducting outreach to local community youth groups and
families 

 

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in one of the
natural sciences or environmental education, advanced degree preferred,
along with experience working with young children and a minimum of two
years of teaching experience in an informal education setting. Strong
organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and
communication skills and flexibility are required, as is a passion for
teaching and sharing a love of the outdoors with others. Must be able to
work on multiple projects both independently and in a team-oriented
environment. This position will require work on some evenings and
weekends. This is a two-year, grant-funded position with an anticipated
start date of December 1.
