Conservation Project Support Grants:

New Conservation Grant Funding Available from IMLS

The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) can help
your institution apply for a new conservation grant available from the
Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for your paper-based
collections.

Conservation Project Support Grants will be awarded in amounts up to
$150,000 with a 1:1 institutional match for the total project request.
Your organization can apply for funding for conservation projects that
identify conservation needs and priorities, and to perform conservation
and preservation activities to ensure the safekeeping of your
collections. The primary goal of the project should be conservation
care, and not collection management or maintenance.

Applicable conservation projects that CCAHA can provide include:

* Conservation treatment of paper-based and photographic
collections materials.

*        Collection-level or item-level conservation surveys.

* Rebinding and repair of historically significant books.

*        Training of staff.

* Assistance in purchasing appropriate environmental monitoring
equipment.

Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2009. The official IMLS
guidelines can be found at:
http://www.imls.gov/applicants/grants/conservProject.shtm

Because the applications must be submitted through www.grants.gov
<http://www.grants.gov/> , any interested organization that has not
registered with www.grants.gov <http://www.grants.gov/> should allow
at least two weeks to complete the multi-step registration process. For
specific questions regarding eligibility and the IMLS application
process, contact Christine Henry, Senior Program Officer, IMLS, at
202-653-4674, or Mark Feitl, Program Specialist, IMLS, at 202-653-4635.

Whenever possible, CCAHA offers free grant application support for
paper-based collections, including project planning and grant review, as
well as letters of support/commitment for planned surveys and treatment.
Contact Lee Price, Director of Development, CCAHA, at 215-545-0613 or

CCAHA specializes in the conservation treatment of photographic
materials and works of art and artifacts on paper, such as drawings,
prints, maps, posters, historic wallpaper, rare books, scrapbooks and
manuscripts, as well as related materials such as parchment and papyrus.
