Going Public: Cross-disciplinary perspectives on presenting women's history

 

Canadian Association for Women's Public History 2009 Symposium

October 22-24, 2009

Royal Alberta Museum

Edmonton, Alberta 

 

This symposium considers the complex and creative ways in which women's history is presented in public contexts. The keynote address will be presented by Kirsten Evenden, CEO of the Glenbow Museum, Calgary.  Day sessions include presentations of artists' work, discussions of 'lost women' and their place in the historical narrative, sessions exploring the impact of the Second World War on Canadian women and the reconstruction of women's histories in marginalized communities.  Also included in the symposium is a tour of local museums founded by women and a multi-media performance by Juno- nominated musician Maria Dunn based on the voices of women who worked in Edmonton's Great Western Garment Company factory.

Registration closes October 1, 2009.  Full conference rate including all sessions, meals, evening concert and day tour is CDN$85.  Student/Senior full conference rate is $55.   A daily rate is also available.

Ce symposium considère les moyens complexes et créatifs par lesquels l'histoire des femmes est présentée au publique. Le discours principal sera présenté par Kirsten Evenden, directrice du Musée Glenbow, à Calgary. Les séances quotidiennes comprendront des présentations du travail des artistes, des discussions sur "les femmes oubliées" et leur place dans le récit historique, des sessions qui explorent l'impact de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale sur les femmes et la reconstruction de l'histoire des femmes dans les communautés marginalisées. Une visite des musées locaux fondés par des femmes est aussi inclus dans ce symposium ainsi qu'une ballade-vidéo basée sur les voix de femmes qui ont travaillé à l'usine Great Western Garment Company à Edmonton présentée par la musicienne Maria Dunn (nominée pour un Juno).
