Digital New Zealand - examples in other countries?

I’ve just stumbled upon Digital New Zealand:

...linking the collections of various memory institutions and allowing users to create personalised timelines and so on. Check out their cool Memory Maker environment: http://remix.digitalnz.org/ for example.
In the Netherlands, we are also linking items from various collections ( http://tinyurl.com/memorynetherlands ) and naturally, there’s Europeana. But these sites are not really offering engaging community tools like Digital New Zealand. Do you happen to know more examples of national portals? It would be highly appreciated.
