Dear all I have to catalogue a 1920s travel iron set but I'm afraid I don't quite know how the pieces fit together - any help would be appreciated. The set consists of a leather-covered carry case with velvet compartmentalized inner, a hair curling tong with a wooden handle, a flat iron made of a shiny metal with a wicker handle and a small round kettle with collapsible wicker handles. It has an electrical cord with two female sockets at the one end and a fitting similar to a bayonet light bulb's on the other end. Only the iron has fixed plug pins that connects to the cord. There is a semi-holed cordless porcelain screw-bulb fitting with detachable pins and there are two loose plates, which I assume serve as hotplates. The one plate has a raised / lowered centre bar and fits the iron's flat surface, the other is a flat round plate with basically the same diameter as the kettle and has two cut out, raised / lowered? horizontal parts. The only maker's mark I could find is a back-to-front "B" with an adjoining 'E" engraved at the back of the iron plate. I will e-mail photo's on request Where can I find more information about this? Do you have a similar set in your collection? Am I missing any parts? How do the kettle and tongs warm up? Looking forward to your response Elize Elize Sutherland NATIONAL CULTURAL HISTORY MUSEUM Tel. +27(0) 12 324 6082 Fax. +27(0) 12 328 5173 149 Visagie Street (between Bosman & Schubart Street), Pretoria PO Box 28088, Sunnyside, 0132 RSA Any opinions expressed are strictly my own ========================================================= Important Subscriber Information: The Museum-L FAQ file is located at http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/ .
