Now is an excellent time to begin preparing an IMLS
Conservation Project Support grant. I have had extensive experience with
the program as a reviewer, panelist and grant writer, and may be able
to guide you in defining a fundable project. If so,
I can offer pro-bono assistance in writing the grant. These
grants provide up to $150,000 for collections preservation, care, and even
treatment. Although they require a 50% match, the project often
can be designed so that it uses little or no cash match. While the
deadline is October 1, it is a good idea to submit the grant around the middle
of September. That leaves just over two months to prepare it, so now is
the time to begin in order to avoid the all-too-common panic at the
deadline. The first step is to visit the IMLS-CP web site for more
information.
The project design can be quite flexible, as long as
it meets one of your highest collections preservation priorities.
Please let me know if I can further assist you with this process.
