Ron Cundiff will be teaching the upcoming workshop titled "Museum Security," an intensive one day workshop that provides an excellent risk management overview, opportunities for discussion, and resources to help your organization identify and manage security risks in the museum environment.

 

 

Collections Policies for Small Museums - Wednesday - Friday, July 22-24th, 2009

In this three day course designed for beginners, participants will learn how to write collections management, care and handling, and conservation/preservation policies appropriate to their museums. Issues concerning museum collections will be discussed, including deaccessioning and loans. A bibliography of sources and reading lists will be provided.

 

Participants who already have such policies are encouraged to bring them, and the organization's mission statement. 

 

 

Museum Security - Monday, August 3rd, 2009

This full-day course will discuss and examine issues regarding security of the collections and the organization as a whole. Topics include: Conducting Security Risk Assessments; Cost Effective Security Systems - what’s good and what works well; Applying Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to your organization; Security and Public Relations/ Customer Service; The Importance of Documentation of Incidents; Guidelines from the Museum, Library and Cultural Properties Council of ASIS International: Suggested Practices for Museum Security.
