The State Historical Society of North Dakota collaborates each
year with the Bismarck, Mandan and State libraries for the Summer Reading
Kick-off for the libraries. We use the theme of the year used by 36 states and
advertize to daycares and schools and through the newspaper, cable television
and radio. We also specifically target the Title I reading programs.
This is the seventh year we have collaborated. The first year we
had 700 kids and we have grown each year until we usually get about 5,000 kids
and chaperones. Twenty- two agencies and businesses worked with us this year on
the theme Be Creative at Your Library. We had a full day of activities on June
1 with musicians, celebrity readers, ballet, the zoo, medieval displays, native
dancers, etc. A good time is had by all attending and the day is free of
charge.
The libraries have tripled their reading program participants
through the collaboration.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Seeking examples of Museum-Library partnerships
Hello,
I
am putting together an informal, free, lunch time learning hour (in NYC on July
23) on the topic of successful museum-library partnerships and
collaborations. Does anyone have an example of a partnership they have
with a library (school, academic, public, special, whatever…) that you
would be willing to share with the attendees? Collaborations can be small
or large in scope as well as of limited or ongoing duration. I would like
to have some examples to show the attendees and offer some tips and tricks for
successful partnerships.
Please
contact me off list with any insights or anything else.
Thanks
for your help-
Deidre
