A permanent GS-7 museum technician position for the South Florida Collections Management Center (SFCMC) at Everglades National Park is now open on www.usajobs.opm.gov until June 18th. SALARY RANGE: 40,243.00 - 52,317.00 USD /year

 

 

The incumbent serves as the museum technician at the South Florida Collections Management Center (SFCMC), which manages the museum collections for Big Cypress National Preserve, Biscayne National Park, De Soto National Memorial, Dry Tortugas National Park, and Everglades National Park. Combined, these five south Florida parks have museum collections in excess of six (6) million items. The position is supervised by the SFCMC's registrar.
 
The incumbent catalogs diverse collections of natural science and cultural history collections. Uses the Automated National Cataloging System (ANCS+) to create accession and catalog records. Under the supervision of the registrar, carries out museum preservation projects, including storage improvements; prepares accession and deaccession records; and assists with preparation of loans, including preparing documents, condition reporting objects, and packing collections for shipment. Conducts routine preventive conservation work in museum storage and exhibit areas, including environmental monitoring, housekeeping and pest management. Creates mounts for objects. Cleans objects appropriately. Assists with preparation of exhibits. Photographs objects to improve documentation, preservation and access. Conducts oral history for South Florida Collections Management Center (SFCMC) parks. Facilitates researchers access to collections.
