Clarice Smith Education Manager
 
Description
The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC is searching for an innovative and experienced manager for The Clarice Smith American Art Education Initiative, a new national professional development program for educators to begin Summer 2009. The Initiative is designed to assist middle and high school educators to integrate the visual arts across the curriculum using technology. The Initiative includes at least two yearly week-long professional development programs for educators from across the U.S. with follow-up collaborations using videoconferences and Web 2.0 technologies.
 
The Clarice Smith Education Manager will help to shape The Clarice Smith American Art Education Initiative from its’ formative stages of development into full operation. Program development includes conceptualizing the overall Initiative and its program components and services, cultivating partnerships, developing Web 2.0 program elements, and developing the curriculum, evaluation design, and marketing of the Institutes and on-going collaborations, among others. Implementation includes teaching in the museum and via videoconference, managing the collaborative website, designing and producing teaching resources, providing on-going support services for educators, managing budgets, and reporting and tracking of activities, among others.
 
Requirements
 
 
Desired qualifications for this position include:
·       Significant experience in an art museum (American art collection preferred) creating educator professional development programs and resources linked to national education standards for grades 4-12. Experience using artworks to teach a variety of subjects.
·       Knowledge of American art and culture.
·       Experience teaching educators, grades 4-12, in a museum. Experience also working with students preferred.
·       Ability to use videoconferencing, collaborative websites, and other educational technology applications.
·       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
·       Excellent organizational skills with ability to meet tight deadlines and manage budgets, production schedules, and evaluation.
·       Masters degree in Art History, American Studies, or related discipline is strongly preferred.
 
Salary
This is a Trust funded position at IS-09/11, starting salary $50,408 with benefits. Five year temporary position.
