Cecilia,

We don’t have a camp, but we run a summer youth art program. It’s a 2.5
month long program from June-August. Each class runs for one week 2 hours
each day, morning sessions from 10-12noon and afternoon sessions from 1-3pm.
The parents drop their kids off 10min before class, we hold the classes in
an empty gallery adjacent to the museum, up to 4 classes at a time. The
gallery is staffed by the four teachers plus one staff member who monitors
the door and front desk. We arrange our classes by age, 5-9 and 9-13, this
allows the older children to take part in some art activities that would be
dangerous for younger children. The parents seem happy to have their
children separated by age, and as far as I know we have not had any
complaints.

I would also check out the Oasis Day Camps, run out of Brooklyn, New York.
They operate all over the city of New York and parts of New Jersey. They
divide their groups by age. http://www.oasischildren.com

Good luck!

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Camp question

I have a question for you all…how many of you have camp.

If you do—do you split up the kids by age?

How do the parents deal with that?
