Closing in preparation for a move

I’d love to hear the responses, too.

We’ve closed our doors as well, though we maintain visibility through digital means (digital exhibitions, blog, Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc…).

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Closing in preparation for a move

Dear Colleagues-

The Utah Museum of Natural History is constructing a new building that will open in 2011.  We plan to close our current building to the public for a period of time before we open at our new site and are interested to hear from other museums who have gone through this process.  How long were you closed?  How did you maintain community visibility during the period you were closed?  Did the period you were closed provide sufficient time to move and prepare to open your new facility?  What advantages and disadvantages did you discover to your approach?

Thanks in advance for your help.  Please feel free to respond to me directly.

Lisa
